Welcome

We are very happy that you are joining us for a performance driving experience.  The ability for you to appreciate and enjoy your vehicle’s capacity is our goal.  We like to think of this experience as part performance driver training, part vehicle testing and feed back, but most importantly, a legal way to enjoy the performance of your car while developing your abilities in a much safer environment than the city streets.

Safety First

Be careful.  Cars are large heavy objects and performance driving can be dangerous.  If you get tired, too hot or feel pressure to do too much, stop and tell us.  We would much rather cut the day short and have you back than have some sort of on track problem.  Safety is number 1.

What You Can Expect

1.      Ground School – discuss the basics of driving and vehicle dynamics.

2.      Both driver and passenger sessions (a lot of track time).

3.      Help with car set-up (tires, tire pressure, suspension, modifications, etc.).

4.      Help with vehicle issues, seating positions, driving techniques and car control.

5.      A great time.

What Is Expected Of You

1.      Think Safety First.

2.      Come rested and be prepared for a vigorous and fun day.

3.      Remember to service your car during the day.

4.      Take notes.

5.      Drink a lot of water and eat snacks often (it’s very easy to get dehydrated).

6.      Ask questions, meet and communicate with other students.

7.      Let us know what you think of the training at the end of the day.

Safety Issues

Driver – This is the one area we all have some control over, ourselves.

More than anything else, we want you to be safe, happy and return for another event.  For that reason here are some common issues that we as adults and drivers need to conform to.

A.     Proper attire- As of this writing, the correct helmet for open track driving is rated as SA00 or SA2000, SA2005 are now available and recommended.  This rating (SA)is accepted by most governing bodies for fender equipped track vehicles.  Full-face helmets are safer than open-faced helmets.

B.     If not wearing an approved fire retardant driving suit, please wear cotton long pants with closed toe shoes and a cotton long sleeve shirt. No short pants, tank tops or open toe shoes.

C.    Vision is very important - wear any needed corrective eye wear.  Sunglasses can cut down on the glare from the pavement.  Test fit all eyewear with helmet before entering the track.

D.    Physical maintenance during the day – Performance driving is very intense.  Most first time track drivers are surprised by the intense sense of speed and the amount of physical work that it takes.  Drink more water than you think you need throughout the day.  Also, plan to eat a small snack before and after each session (fruit, protein bars, whatever works for you).  Getting light headed or tired during a training session can be detrimental to you and everyone on track with you.

E.     Physical maintenance before the event – Be rested!  Eat a good healthy breakfast.  Physical training in cardio is always recommended weeks prior to the event.  Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and be prepared for some noise, and wind as well.

Vehicle Preparation

As for many of you this may be the first track experience you have had.  There are several steps you need to take to be sure your car will perform at its best.  We are there to help you, but your habits need to be started day 1 and the ultimate responsibility is yours.

A.     Before the event – Bleed the brakes and always use the highest quality brake fluid you have access to.  Recommendations and ratings of fluids are available on the internet.  You can talk with your instructor for specific ideas regarding your vehicle.  Check the brakes for at least 50% of pad material.

B.     Check all fluids – Clean oil (synthetic preferred if the vehicle is properly “broken in”).   Coolant level cold checked, power steering fluid cold checked.

C.    Check all lights (brake lights).

D.    No loose objects in the vehicle – they become flying objects at speed.  Generally strip anything not needed out of the car before leaving for the track. This includes the floor mats that have a habit of lumping up under your break pedal at the wrong time.

E.     Clean your car – including engine bay.  If a leak develops, you can usually find it easier.  Keep your windscreen clear and clean.

Pit Area Safety

Please keep pit speed down to 10 mph or less.  Be aware that these are family events.  Many children attend as spectators with their families and could be anywhere in the pits.  Small pit bikes are common and are hard to see, so take your time getting to and from the track in the pits. Also use your head where you park, don’t block access to the track, then run to the bathroom.

You will be drained when you come off the track, but don’t let down your concentration until you get to your parking spot.  Just as many injuries occur in the pits as they do on the track.

1. Performance driving can be dangerous, safety is our #1 priority

2. Your vehicle may not be insured while on the racetrack surface

3. Below is our disclosure that we require. We have a great safety record, have never needed it. We intend to keep it that way. Passengers are required to sign as well. Thank you for your understanding.

 See you at the track!
