KW Suspensions - KW Suspensions is a German based Suspension Company that has its domestic operations based out of Sanger, California. They were the first sponsor of the unlimited class 1988 Mustang and its support allowed the car to enjoy immediate speed improvements. The adjustability and general quality of the product is also the basis of our fully adjustable S197 chassis Mustangs. I might add that they are using some information gathered during track tests to improve the valving of the V3 dampening system for their entire client basis.

Enkei Wheels - Enkie Wheels are already very popular in the import tuner market. We give them exposure to the Mustang crowd and add an element of grass roots racing to the existing professional teams that they already support. They are great people and I hope they receive a lot of exposure from the unlimited class car. www.enkei.com

Wilwood Engineering - Wilwood Engineering is a local company to us. Really though, what they bring to the table is value and a working relationship. We love the availability of the different pad compounds and the simplicity of the systems. We tried an OEM high end supplier, but when there was a failure on a modified student SVT Cobra and the caliper needed a rebuild, they didn’t want to sell us a rebuild kit, only a full system at about 10 times the cost. On a personal note, one thing that is really nice about Wilwood is that when you call, you get a personal, human voice and are able to have a constructive conversation; there is something to be said for that! www.wilwood.com

Maximum Motorsports - Maximum Motorsports is a very strong player and supplier in the NASA, American Iron and American Iron Extreme Race Series. We use several of the front suspension components on our Fox platform car and everything fits and holds together well. They are at many events in support of their client base, and I respect that. It is an extra effort and investment in their behalf, but it’s some of the same commitment that got us started. This effort has paid off for them because now they control a huge portion of the Fox platform chassis market. www.maximummotorsports.com

Vortech Engineering - In the unlimited class “Time Attack” you need power, not just for 10 seconds but for your whole session plus all the testing. That may sound basic, but road course racing is a lot different than drag racing. You need power plus you need extra reliability. Vortech has been around for several years, they literally have thousands of superchargers on Mustangs. Their centrifugal design mates well to a road course cam grind, they also support our effort and came though with super strong mounting brackets, as well as no nonsense advice and support team. www.vortechsuperchargers.com

MSD and Racepak - I got involved with MSD through Racepak’s G2X GPS based data acquisition system. One of my driving instructor’s Scott Laird used one and I enjoyed the clean install and the ease of use of the system. Now I use the G2X system myself and have Modified Mustang Magazine using it for testing. I use it for more advanced students, and it can really help the student understand the problems they may be having. Face it most racers are guys, and we are very visual, the numbers don’t lie and the data visuals are great. We also are using the MSD coil and ignition system on the supercharged unlimited class car. www.racepak.com

Konig Wheels - The official wheel of the S197 chassis Mustangs. We tested several wheels due to the customer cars having different aftermarket wheels attached to them. The offset is great for a variety of aftermarket brake systems and most importantly they are very light for the size we use. We also got a ton of complements on the looks of the wheels and I feel very lucky to have them on our team. www.konigwheels.com

Steeda Autosports – Steeda Autosports is one of the only aftermarket companies that have a productive informational sharing relationship with Ford Motor Company. We use the CARB certified engine program in our production cars, and also use several supporting pieces that are very high quality in the suspension portion of our program. Whenever you change the ride height of a car, there are tons of issues to look at. Everything from bump steer to roll centers are modified, fortunately they have a good enough talent base and development program to address these items correctly. www.steeda.com

Coast Driveline - This Company has made a name for itself doing project vehicles, mostly 4x4 trucks. Because we were concerned with the rotating masses in the S197 we knew there was a very heavy two piece driveshaft. By working with this company we have been able to shed twenty-two pounds off the rotating mass in the driveline. We use their product in all our S197 Mustang’s; now Coast driveline has brought their product to the market with great success. This to me is a good example of how a relationship should work. Their products were tested hard, modified and retested in our road course work. Changes were then made and the end product is better for everyone, including the BDX production cars. www.coastdriveline.com

Barber Automotive Group - Barber Automotive is the home of the BDX and we have been fortunate to have a great relationship with this group of dealers. There literally the dealer will retail our tested cars and we are providing a day of instruction to the retail buyer and training to the staff of the dealer. We have converted the dealer owned 24’ electric car delivery trailer into a mobile training station and race car transport, with the graphics package and phone numbers on the trailer. The BDX and Barber store both benefit in advertising from this arrangement.
Barber also enjoys retail operations with Subaru and Volkswagen. The BDX plans on developing signature enthusiast cars from these manufacturers as well. www.barberonline.com

Modified Mustangs Magazine - We have two major common elements between these two organizations: one is both our staff are true automobile enthusiasts; the second is we both are working very hard to create a quality product for our clients. This realization has added to both groups, with us adding to the content of the magazine with true scientific been able to gain exposure for the suppliers and also at times we have required actions from them so we can build a better car. The end result has been a better car, and bragging rights to all those involved.
We have also gained some exposure with their “Sister” magazine Modified which is a major sponsor for the “Redline Time Attack.” www.modifiedmustangs.com

Classic Design Concepts - Classic Design Concepts is an ISO 9001 OEM and aftermarket supplier of high quality body parts. For Ford they supplied the body parts for the 2003 and 2004 limited production Mach 1 Mustang. For the Barber Driving Experience we are working together to come up with a functional front nose kit that will not be cosmetically offensive for the street car, but yet reduces the lift and drag on the track cars. Surprisingly most body kits sold are never tested for function and in some cases may be unsafe at high speeds because of mounting issues and at times can actually create the nose lift the customers are attempting to reduce. Although, as of this writing the testing has not been completed, I am confident that the end product will work and provide us with a better car and Classic Design Concepts with a better product. www.classicdesignconcepts.com

Borla Performance Industries - Borla is another high quality OEM type supplier. I am a huge fan of their product and have them on both of my personal vehicles. Both the Barber Driving Experience and Barber Automotive maintain relationships with Borla Performance. They have an actual racer operating their racing operations and they take the time in the development area, being sure a full system is as good as they can make it. I have made it OEM on our BDX Mustangs and if you know what they mean to me then you know what Borla means as well. www.borla.com

Marcy Motorsports - owned by Walter Marcy. I knew him by reputation as an engine builder about four years ago. Walter contacted me about working on the development of a Ford Focus that he was building up. He knew engines and I knew handling, we had a blast and got a normal aspirated 2.3 Focus to hunt down 2006 Z06 Corvettes (great cars) at Willow Springs during open track testing. Walter is currently beginning a build for our Unlimited class Time Attack Mustang. Watch for the coverage in Modified Mustangs Magazine. www.marcymotorsport.com

Quantum Motorsports – The Barber Driving Experience is to test the Quantum Motorsports Mustang Brake Duct Cooling Kits. Working with Modified Mustangs Magazine, the BDX will install a 3” street ducting kit with the optional aluminum inlet passage. Complete documentation of the install and its stages will be covered in the magazine, look for it in the September or October issues of Modified Mustang. We will also be testing a full race set up on one of the BDX time trial cars.
As this is the BDX; we will follow up with a complete track test of it’s effectiveness with proper documentation of its performance. We will have purchased 1,000 degree F temp gauges to check rotor temps for cooling. If this works, it could be worth lots in lower cost of operation as the front rotors will last longer and potentially the results may allow for different pad materials to be used as well. Stay tuned! If it doesn’t work, it won’t be on a BDX Mustang for very long.
